Box Office Report: 'Leap' Stumbles as the Box Office Sinks

Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. of the U.S. and UFC lightweight champion Conor Mc Gregor of Ireland pose during post-fight news conference at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas

Hampered by a hurricane and a high-profile boxing match, weekend box-office results in North America were the slowest in almost 16 years, allowing previous leader "The Hitman s Bodyguard" to hold its top spot with an unimpressive $10.1 million take.

Based on studio estimates, this weekend's box office total was the lowest in three years (while some outlets are saying it was the worst in over fifteen years, Deadline notes that the last to do worse actually came in September 2014).

This weekend's catastrophic overall tally in North American box office is the worst in at least three years, winding up at around 65 million USA dollars.

Cavaliers May Want More Compensation For Acquiring Isaiah Thomas
Given past history and the apparent leverage within the situation, it feels like Boston will be able to just wait this one out. The Cavs and Celtics have incentive to make it work even if one team is a little less happy about the outcome of the deal.

Harvey, the deadly hurricane-turned-tropical storm, led to some theater closings in Texas, while Floyd Mayweather s much-hyped bout against Irishman Conor McGregor proved to be one of the biggest pay-per-view shows in history, Variety.com noted.

The action comedy starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds was projected to take in $10 million Friday through Sunday in theaters in the United States and Canada, the industry tracking group comScore reported. The Weinstein Company's Leap! earned only $5 million, placing it in third place, while Blumhouse's Birth of the Dragon reeled in a measly $2.5 million and Sony's All Saints trailing not too far behind it with $1.55 million. Audiences who saw the film gave it an A on CinemaScore, but critics rejected it with a 37 percent Rotten Tomatoes score. "The "Conjuring" spinoff" has now grossed $77.9 million in total.

Warner Bros.' "Annabelle: Creation" landed in the second place with an estimated 7.35 million US dollars in its third weekend and has earned more than 77.8 million after 17 days in theaters in North America. "Logan Lucky" will barely have the edge over "Wind River" with almost identical $4 million weekends by end of day Sunday. That number will translate to a $5 million opening weekend for the film, originally released in French under the title "Ballerina" in late 2016.
