Elephant Murdered 15 People, Finally Killed Just Before World Elephant Day

Nawab Shafat Ali Khan - one of India's best hunters - and his hunting team went after the elephant, shooting it point blank to ensure that it could not survive the bullets, according to Yahoo News.

An elephant that has killed 15 people in eastern India over a months-long rampage could be shot within days if it is not brought under control, an official said Wednesday. He fired the first shot on its forehead, and after it fell, fired another shot to confirm it was killed, ' he said. "It was a unsafe operation", Khan said of the hunt in Sahibganj district of the eastern state of Jharkhand.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Wildlife, L R Singh, said: "The team managed to track down the elephant around 6 pm near Banjhi Santhali village in Taljhari Block of Sahibganj district".

"It was quite a hard operation because of the thick bushes and since the animal had turned rogue it charged at us before I pulled the trigger", Khan said.

The marauding elephant, believed to have lost its way after becoming separated from its herd, crushed four victims in Bihar state in March before crossing into neighbouring Jharkhand and killing 11 more.

Commenting on the issue, Kim highlighted that the time has come for the USA and North Korea to meet at the negotiating table. Chinese government-backed scholars said Beijing is deeply concerned about the latest statements from Trump and North Korea.

The forest official said that casualties could have continued to increase had several people from villages atop the densely forested hills not come down to lower areas.

"I prefer tranquillising animals".

The environment ministry estimates a person dies every day in India in clashes with these endangered, jungle-dwelling animals - the vast majority crushed by elephants.

Khan said it was the seventh elephant he had killed, adding that in the past he had also killed five tigers and eight leopards that had threatened people in other parts of the country.

The elephant was buried in the forest early on Saturday.
