Wenger confirms Lemar snubbed Arsenal switch

Sanchez was expected to leave for City on transfer deadline day after Arsenal finally gave in to the player's wishes and accepted a £60m bid.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Reports on Wednesday claimed Liverpool have agreed a £35 million deal with Arsenal to sign England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. But Wenger insisted that the botched move will not affect the 28-year-old Chile international's motivation to perform for Arsenal.

Manager Arsene Wenger has kept his pledge to retain Sanchez, but introducing the striker back into his Arsenal squad after the global break will be hard given that he already had his heart set on a move to City.

Wenger also opened up on a failed move for Monaco star Thomas Lemar, saying: "The player chose to stay in Monaco".

"It was not very close, it's very hard for me to speak about that because what I want now is the player to focus on his career, on his season and Arsenal", he added.

Special Counsel Has Draft of Letter Trump Wrote to Fire Comey
The person said the Federal Bureau of Investigation wanted to interview her but didn't believe it was going to change the outcome. There's no indication that Comey's preparation of a statement at that stage of a lengthy investigation is unusual.

According to Catalan daily Sport, Monaco demanded a fee of around €120m from a desperate Barcelona, but the Catalan giants were not interested in spending that figure on Lemar.

"I think the players have lost all respect for him [Wenger]", he added.

"It was not very close, it's very hard for me to speak about that because what I want now is the player to focus on his career, on his season and Arsenal", he said. "You have to respect what really happens on the negotiation side", Wenger said in an interview with BeIN Sports.

"When you can not do it, you keep the player and make a financial sacrifice because what you want, at the end of the day, is to have a team with good potential and top quality".

Despite eventually admitting that they would have to let Sanchez go, Arsenal's failure to sign Lemar meant they had no option but to keep the player because their attacking options would have been severely depleted and their supporters, already angry after a poor start to the season, would have become even more enraged.
