An aspirin a day keeps many cancers away, study suggests

Long-term use of aspirin may reduce the risk of developing many major cancers according to the new study

They were found to be 47 per cent less likely to get cancer of the liver or the oesophagus than those who did not take the drug.

Taking aspirin may have a protective effect against a number of cancers, research shows.

Aspirin wasn't found to have an impact on the incidence of breast, bladder, kidney and multiple myeloma cancers.

Gastric cancer reduced by 38 per cent, pancreatic cancer by 34 per cent while colorectal cancer by 24 per cent, it said.

Patients who stopped taking aspirin were more likely to have a heart attack or stroke as well.

In the United States, digestive cancers are projected to account for almost 20 percent of all new cancer cases and more than a quarter of cancer-related deaths in 2017, according to estimates by the American Cancer Society.

Interpublic's revenue rose 0.5% on a like-for-like basis, Publicis Groupe was up 1.2% and Omnicom climbed 2.8% . On Tuesday the group said it now expected like-for-like net sales growth to come in flat.

A trial involving more than 600,000 people found that long-term aspirin use appeared to reduce a person's risk of a number of digestive cancers, as well as leukaemia, lung and prostate cancer.

There were also significant reductions in the rate of stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer and bowel cancer, and in cancers outside of the digestive system, such as leukaemia, lung and prostate cancers.

According to researchers, aspirin, which protects against heart attacks, strokes is though to block enzymes which help cancer tumours grow.
