Drinking coffee may decrease risk of heart failure, stroke

GETTYThe risk of heat failure is reduced by seven per cent

In a new analysis of one of the country's largest and longest-running studies, drinking coffee was linked to a lower risk of heart failure, stroke and coronary heart disease.

The preliminary research was presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions in Anaheim, California.

The researchers even determined that whether someone drank coffee or not could help predict their eventual risk of heart failure or stroke.

Fortunately, it seems that my coffee-drinking habits may mean that I'm less exposed to certain health risks, according to new research by the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora.

"It is important to note that this type of study design demonstrates an observed association, but does not prove cause and effect". Each additional cup of coffee drunk per day decreased all of these conditions by 5%, 7% and 8% respectively, if consumed up to six cups at least a day.

The findings about coffee consumption came about after re-analysing data from the Framingham Heart Study, a long-running USA investigation of heart disease risk factors involving thousands of participants.

The researchers found that the participants who followed the plant-based diet had the strongest association with a lower risk of incident heart failure when adjusted for age, sex and race of the participants and for other risk factors.

It is a small, white, circular patch which monitors blood sugar levels and will warn her when she has to inject insulin. Why does blood sugar matter? Below is a list of five such foods that can help you bring down your blood glucose levels.

Although the findings were consistent, the researchers emphasize that the association is not necessarily causal, so we shouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet.

Previous studies have indicated that people's dietary pattern plays a vital role in increasing or reducing the risk of atherosclerosis, a condition characterized by a gradual narrowing of the arteries, resulting in heart failure, stroke, and heart attack. In this case, red meat consumption was identified as a potential risk factor, although here, the correlation was less striking. That being said, it is now hard to verify these results because the definition of what constitutes "red meat" differs between studies.

Foods to avoid include refined carbohydrates, foods high in added sugars, trans fats, saturated fats and processed meats. Instead, they suggest replacing it with chicken, fish, and beans.

In a study conducted by Dr Kyla Lara, experts examined five diets which ranged from red meats, to plant based food, candies and alcohol over four years.

Eating a vegetarian diet slashes the risk of heart failure by nearly half, scientists have discovered.

A new research adds to the multiple benefits of coffee consumption, making all coffee lovers happy.

The researchers utilized data from a a nationwide observational study of stroke risk factors in people aged above 45, called "Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke" (REGARDS). They hope that machine learning methods will be effective in uncovering hitherto unknown culprits. The current risk-assessment tools used to predict whether someone might develop heart disease are very good, the authors noted in their presentation, but they're not 100% accurate, suggesting that more risk factors could still be identified.
