Man beaten to death 'by gang with baseball bats'

The victim passed away at an East London hospital at 4.35am today

The gang fled the scene as appalled onlookers called emergency services.

"He was taken to an East London hospital by London Ambulance Service where he died at 04.35hrs".

A GANG of thugs attacked a man and beat him unconscious with baseball bats before leaving him to die on a high street.

The brutal killing of the man in East London is the second in the capital this weekend after a man was shot in the groin and died on Saturday.

Cops were called to Ilford, East London, shortly before 3am today to reports of a street brawl.

The Met said inquiries are under way to identify the man and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

The killers are now on the run and forensic experts are searching the scene to help their investigation.

"This investigation is still at its early stages and it is vital we speak to witnesses and others who have information about what took place but are yet to come forward".

No arrests have been made at this time.

Local road closures have been put in place and buses have been re-routed.
