Nathan Lyon burns toast, causes 30-minute delay in Australian first-class match

Lyon's burnt toast stops play in Brisbane

Nathan Lyon single-handedly manage to delay the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and New South Wales - by burning his toast! Usman Khawaja and David Warner, among others, were perplexed at the proceedings.

Umpires were forced to suspend play on Wednesday afternoon at Allan Border Field due to a fire alarm that led to the evacuation of the Stuart Law Stand, which houses both teams, the scorers and the media.

New South Wales eventually went on to record a six-wicket victory.

Play was brought to a halt on the penultimate day of the Sheffield Shield match in Queensland following an incident caused by Lyon.

The match also saw Matt Renshaw's poor form continue - the Middlesbrough-born opener making scores of 16 and one - but Lyon says his global team-mate retains support from within the dressing room.

"Lyon confessed his mistake and told "(The toast) popped up first and I wasn't happy so I put it back down and I got carried away watching the cricket".

Play was suspended for about 3o minutes as one stand had to be evacuated fully.

'It happens every second week [at home] I reckon. I was getting a bit bored in the changerooms. "Chef' Nathan Lyon's work in the kitchen was responsible for halting the game for half an hour after his burnt toast set off the fire alarms and fire-trucks had to called in".

Lyon also jokingly said Steve Smith would cover the fees for calling the fire truck to the venue.
