Oscar De La Hoya Calls Out Conor McGregor

Conor Mc Gregor Marc Goddard

When rumors started firing around past year about the possibility of McGregor boxing, De La Hoya talked about having the UFC star fight his boxer, Canelo Alvarez.

It was here that McGregor was expected to take on Tony Ferguson in a lightweight unification fight and following the news this may not now be going ahead, the interim champion took to social media to voice his thoughts.

Following McGregor from his transition as a largely unknown fighter to the status he now enjoys, the film includes highlights from throughout his career including winning the UFC championship belt in just 13 seconds and his shock loss to rival Nate Diaz, culminating in his recent foray into the world of boxing and his record-breaking Las Vegas bout against Floyd Mayweather. I think that's very important to understand that fighter safety is the most important thing in the world because without fighter safety, the sport would not proceed to the next level like it always had.

'Two rounds, that's all I need. You heard it on Golden Boy Radio.

De La Hoya, who retired in 2009 after a one-sided defeat Manny Pacquiao, won 10 world titles in six different weight classes and is regarded as one of the finest boxers of his generation.

De La Hoya did not say when he would be ready to take on McGregor, but fans were quick to point out the irony of him calling out the 29-year-old Irishman given that he had repeatedly criticised Floyd Mayweather Jr for taking on the MMA specialist in a boxing match.

Duke vs. Michigan State live stream
Despite almost putting up triple digits on the scoreboard Friday, the Spartans finished only 3-of-12 from beyond the arc. Michigan State opened the season with a 98-66 win over North Florida behind Bridges' 20 points and 10 rebounds.

"Our sport might not ever recover".

'You know I'm competitive, ' De La Hoya said.

However, he seems to have changed his tune and is keen to face McGregor himself in a fantasy fight that could generate millions.

We've seen McGregor accused of making racially insensitive remarks, we've seen him repeatedly use a homophobic slur when referring to a teammate's opponent and, most recently, we've seen him allow his emotion get the better of him in the Bellator cage. In a bout that nearly surely would draw considerably less?

The Dublin native who fairly held his own against the undefeated Mayweather could soon be heading for another massive payday if the legend that is Oscar De la Hoya has his way.
