The Pakistan Cricket Board has filed a $70 million lawsuit against the Board of Control of Cricket in India, according to ESPNCricinfo.
Pakistan has kicked off a legal battle against India for not honouring a bilateral cricket series agreement, the sport's governing body confirming Thursday it received a notice of dispute. PCB have already issued a notice to the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the whole matter and has also requested them to to introduce a Dispute Resolution Committee to solve the issues.
In May, the PCB had sent a legal notice to the Indian board for not honouring the MoU.
The PCB said it has allocated around one million pounds to cover the legal costs of the compensation claim. The Indian government made it clear that India would not engage with Pakistan in any bilateral sports competition and the two teams have been facing each other in tournaments. The ICC chairman Shashank Manohar was present on that occasion.
The ICC disputes resolution committee is headed by Michael Beloff QC and includes the code of commission representatives, Mike Heron QC and Justice Winston Anderson.
According to the notice, PCB and BCCI had agreed in April 2014 that Pakistan and India would play six bilateral series between December 2016 and December 2022. The agreement was signed, and would only apply, if the Big Three resolutions to revamp cricket were signed off on in June that year.
Since global cricket has been suspended in Pakistan, following the attack on Sri Lanka players in 2009, the two planned series were to be staged at a neutral venue. And that has been the BCCI's central contention all along - that it does not have government permission to play Pakistan.
This is not the first time that the PCB has demanded compensation for the ongoing matter.
The PCB has previously said it is resigned to not playing against India in the Test and ODI leagues itself, but had pushed instead to incorporate contests in a window outside the leagues.
The two planned series between India and Pakistan were due to take place at a neutral venue.
