Sensex, Nifty End Choppy Session On Mixed Note

BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty open lower on Monday

In the second half of Monday's trading session, Sensex touched a new high of over 33848-mark. Titan soared almost 19 per cent post better-than-expected financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2017. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading near life time high. In Q2FY18, Indian Bank posted 11.45% rise in its net profit to Rs Rs 451.54 crore compared to Rs 405.14 crore in the similar period of the previous year - as bad loans declined although provisioning to cover for such assets was raised.

The 30-share index retreated by 97.19 points, or 0.28 per cent to 33,588.37 points as against Friday's record close of 33,685.56. Auto and PSU Bank stocks performed the best with the respective sub-indices gaining 1.32 and 0.92 per cent.

The broader NSE Nifty, which climbed to an all-time high of 10,490.45 in the session, ended 0.01 percent lower at 10,451.80.

Among the top Sensex gainers, Mahindra & Mahindra advanced 3 percent, ONGC gained 2.4 percent, Tata Motors rose 2 percent, Maruti Suzuki was up 1.3 percent while Adani Ports added 1.2 percent. The BSE Telecom, Power and Capital Goods slipped 1.08 per cent, 0.59 per cent and 0.38 per cent, respectively.

The losses in Asian shares came despite gains in Wall Street on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.1 percent, the S&P 500 gaining 0.31 percent and the Nasdaq adding 0.74 percent.
