Yemen blockade: aid supplies stuck in Djibouti

The House vote came a day before the top United Nations aid official in Yemen called on the Saudi-led coalition to open all Yemen's sea ports urgently, saying it risked undoing the fight against cholera and hunger, with 7 million already in "famine-like conditions".

According to news agency Reuters, an official, who declined to be named, said: "We were officially notified by the coalition this afternoon that the closure will be lifted and work will resume as normal". The coalition argues that the closure was needed to stop arms reaching to the Houthi rebels.

After a November 4 ballistic missile attack near the Riyadh global airport by Houthi rebels, Saudi Arabia had announced it shut down all ports in Yemen.

CMA said, "This is a provisional decision and the CMA is now inviting further comment and evidence before coming to a final view". The CMA's findings are surprising given its previous concerns over the deal, which was first announced in January.

Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that the Coalition Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen would begin gradually reopening airports and seaports in Yemen, days after closing them over a Houthi ballistic attack on Riyadh.

"The country is still facing the world's largest cholera outbreak and 7 million people are on the brink of starvation, including some two million severely malnourished children". The humanitarian situation in the war-ravaged Yemen is now one of the deadliest in the world as starvation and lack of medical supplies leave millions at risk - the Saudi blockade of Yemen has added to the country's woes.

The conflict escalated when Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched a massive air campaign in 2015 aimed at reversing Houthi military gains and strengthening Yemen's embattled government.
