"I do find it interesting that the [Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee], Leader [Nancy] Pelosi and Chairman Ben Ray Lujan - they knew about these allegations previous year", Kihuen said, according to ABC News on Tuesday.
Kihuen asserted in an ABC News interview that party leaders knew previous year about the woman's allegations of sexual misconduct, but did not take action against his campaign.
Kihuen apologized in a statement Friday. "I take this matter seriously as it is not indicative of who I am".
A freshman Congressman who has come under fire after sexual assault allegations is claiming party leadership knew of the complaints a year ago, and still supported his candidacy.
Democrat lawmakers denied knowing the allegations prior to the initial reports.
