Justice Ademola voluntarily retires from Federal high court bench

UPDATED: Nigerian judge acquitted of corruption charges 'resigns'

One of the Judges arrested after a "sting operation" by the Department of State Service (DSS) in October previous year, Justice Adeniyi Ademola has voluntarily retired from the Federal High Court bench.

The judge was due for his statutory retirement in March, 2018, but he suddenly turned in his letter of voluntary retirement dated December 6, 2017.

The letter did not disclose the reason for the judge's decision.

The judge was arraigned on 18 count charges bordering on accepting gratification and illegal possession of firearms before an FCT High Court alongside his wife, Olabowale and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Joe Agi.

He was subsequently recalled by the National Judicial Council (NJC) after which he resumed sitting on June 7.

House prices saw the fastest price growth since January
Halifax said that, despite the easing annual growth, the imbalance between supply and demand continues to support house prices. United Kingdom high street lender Halifax's monthly index shows the annual rate of property price inflation eased in November.

A Federal High Court Court Judge, Adeniyi Ademola, accused of corruption and acquitted by the court, has left office.

The letter also came at a time the National Judicial Council, which had been considering a petition sent against him, is having a two-day meeting which commenced on Wednesday.

Justice Ademola was among the eight judges, who were arrested and detained by the Nigeria's secret police, Department of State Services (DSS), following a raid in their homes on October 8, 2016.

Delivering the ruling of the appellate court on Wednesday, O. Elechi, a judge who read the unanimous decision of a three-man panel handling the case, said Quadri's decision to proceed with the trial is contrary to section 98 (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
