National Football League to consider college-like targeting rule

Count Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner among those who would rather the National Football League avoid adding that type of regulation to its game.

NFL's Troy Vincent says league's competition committee will consider a college-style targeting rule, with ejections subject to replay review, in offseason.

"It's bad", the Seahawks defender said of the league potentially adopting targeting rules, per Curtis Crabtree of NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. "You can just see it now". As we've seen around the college football world, there's definitely subjectivity used in determing whether a player should be ejected for targeting. "I would rather that rule stay in the colleges then come up here and start messing up our game".

Conversation regarding the rule change comes on the heels of three player suspensions this week.

8000 strangers buy crumbling castle in France
It was most recently owned by a mathematics teacher, who was unable to salvage the building from decay . The Mothe-Chandeniers chateau in Les Trois-Moutiers, western France has been through some tough times.

The latter idea is related to the incident during the New England Patriots' Week 13 game against the Buffalo Bills when Rob Gronkowski threw an elbow at Tre'Davious White after the play was dead following a White interception.

Instituting a targeting rule likely won't end the debate.

After Monday night's game between the Bengals and the Steelers that featured several punishing, terrifying hits, it's clear something has to change in regards to the NFL's current targeting rule.

"As soon as the offensive player lowers his shoulder or lowers his head or puts his head into it, I can come with my shoulder and he can lower his head and his head hit my shoulder, but they still say it's my fault", Wagner said. But I feel that there's a better way than ejecting guys for certain hits because you kind of just give them the leeway to-it's a judgement call.
