Turkey condemns USA move on Jerusalem as "irresponsible"
President Donald Trump today recognised the disputed city of Jerusalem as Israel's capital- a historic decision that overturns decades of USA policy and risks triggering a fresh spasm of violence in the Middle East.
"We're profoundly grateful for the president for his courageous and just decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to prepare for the opening of the U.S. embassy here".
The position of the majority of the worldwide community has been largely unchanged for decades.
The internationally recognised Palestinian government sees the eastern part as the capital of their future state.
"The United States would support a two-state solution if agreed to by both sides", Trump said, as he announced that Vice President Mike Pence would travel to the region in the coming days.
"Mr. Trump, Jerusalem is the red line of Muslims", Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan said Monday.
The Palestinian Islamist political organization and militant group urged "the youth and the Palestinian resistance in the West Bank" to "respond with all means available to the U.S. decision that harms our Jerusalem".
Germany does not support the Trump administration's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday.
Netanyahu also pledged no change to the status quo at Jerusalem's highly sensitive holy sites in the city sacred to Jews, Christians and Muslims. Previous U.S. administrations had resisted moves that could be seen as prejudging the city's final status, for fear of provoking violent reactions, alienating Muslim allies and further undermining already troubled peace efforts.
Defying dire, worldwide warnings, President Donald Trump on Wednesday broke with decades of United States and global policy by recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
The last round of fitful peace negotiations brokered by Washington collapsed in 2014.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are preparing for violence after Hamas called for a "day of rage" in response to Trump's controversial decision. The statement also issued restrictions on USA government employees' personal and official travel for certain areas of Israel. "That's not for the United States to decide".

She then removes a large briefcase on wheels from the trunk and then walks into City Hall for a meeting, authorities said. Deputies allegedly observed Bradley parking in one of the designated handicap spots.
Qatar's foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, said Trump's undertaking was a "death sentence for all who seek peace" and called it "a unsafe escalation".
Senior U.S. officials said Trump asked King Salman of Saudi Arabia, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Jordan's King Abdullah II to help in lobbying the Palestinians to refrain from violence and return to peace talks.
Jordan, the second Arab state to make peace with Israel, in 1994, said Trump's action was "legally null" because it consolidated Israel's occupation of the eastern sector of the contested city in the 1967 Middle East war.
"(The move) is the culmination of the crime of usurping Palestine and displacing the Palestinian people", said the Syrian state news agency SANA, quoting a foreign ministry source.
The U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem tweeted on Tuesday that U.S. citizens should avoid areas where crowds have gathered to demonstrate.
Trump's move will "serve the extremist groups' agenda" and drag the region into "an endless religious war", Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said in a speech on Palestinian TV.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the U.S. move was a sign of its incompetence and failure, according to his personal website.
Turkish Presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin also took to Twitter to decry Trump's move.
"The status of Jerusalem is a question of global security that concerns the entire worldwide community".
Since Palestinians also consider Jerusalem their capital, any policy that appears to favor the Israelis' claim over the Palestinians' is extremely contentious. "For now, I urge for calm and for everyone to be responsible". "The Holy Land is for us Christians the land par excellence of dialogue between God and mankind", he said.
Guterres added that he had "consistently spoken out against any unilateral measures".
