Abe, Latvian PM discuss North Korea
In a joint news conference, Abe said Riga is the gateway to the Eurasian and Russian markets, and that Latvia has high economic potential.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived Friday in Estonia's capital of Tallinn, where he focused on cybersecurity and information technology issues.
New U.N. sanctions passed against North Korea last month ban the supply of almost 75 percent of refined oil products to Pyongyang and cap crude deliveries among other measures.Abe kicked off his visit in fellow Baltic eurozone state Estonia on January 12, where he also discussed deepening cybersecurity and economic ties.Abe is the first sitting Japanese leader to visit the Baltic states and will also visit Estonia, Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania before returning to Tokyo on January 17.
The Japanese premier is trying to step up pressure on Pyongyang to rein in its nuclear ambitions through talks with foreign leaders.

Abe's visit to Lithuania, the first by a Japanese prime minister, comes as Japan seeks greater cooperation with countries such as China, a former adversary in World War Two, in the face of rising tensions over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. The four countries will aim to hold the first round of dialogue later in 2018 or early in 2019.
He will also travel to Lithuania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania during his six-day trip.
