Hogan Announces State Lawmaker Term Limit Bill

Former Rep. Marjorie Holt

After a volatile election in Virginia that saw Democrats make huge gains in the state House of Delegates, Maryland Democratic legislators vow to take stands on major issues in the hopes of increasing their majorities and chipping away at Gov. Larry Hogan's (R) approval ratings for their upcoming election in 2018.

A total of 823 registered voters were surveyed between December 27 and January 5.

A poll to be released Thursday, conducted by Gonzales Research & Media Services of Arnold, Md., showed that 71 percent of Maryland voters approve of the job Hogan is doing as governor - 41 percent strongly approve while 30 percent somewhat approve. Twenty-one percent disapprove of the Republican Governor. Fifty-nine percent of African-American voters approved of the job he is doing, while 31 percent disapproved. However, he does not get past 50 perecnt with any challenger.

Gonzales says that is due in part to President Donald Trump, despite Hogan generally avoiding associating himself with the president, whose campaign he did not support. In the Baltimore suburbs, he has a mid-to-upper 50's range support.

Why Christian Bale Still Hasn't Seen Ben Affleck's Batman in Action
In a recent talk with Josh Horowitz, the actor confessed that he hasn't seen a single Batman movie featuring the new Batman . Indeed, even while he was playing Batman , he made it perfectly clear that superhero films weren't generally his cup of tea.

With all those advantages, Hogan still falls short of an absolute majority in his matchups against three contenders for the Democratic nomination - the top finishers in a previous Gonzales poll of the Democratic primary.

In a contest against former NAACP national president Ben Jealous, Hogan is ahead 49 percent to 36 percent, with 15 percent undecided. His approval rating among Republicans is 86 percent and 78 percent with independent voters. Just 21 percent disapproved of his job performance.

Some actions in Congress are not being received well by voters.

Hogan had a 70-point spread when it came to job approval and disapproval on the Eastern Shore, in Western Maryland, and perhaps most significantly, in metropolitan Baltimore - Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Howard and Harford counties. The administration's second bill, Crimes - Firearms - Penalties, addresses the problem of repeat violent gun offenders failing to serve adequate time for their crimes by doubling the minimum sentence from five to ten years for repeat offenders who use firearms to commit felonies and violent crimes.
