Israeli Air Force Fires Missiles Into A Border Tunnel In Southern Gaza

The Israeli military said Sunday it destroyed an attack tunnel built by the Hamas militant group that stretched from the Gaza Strip, though Israel and into Egypt, and that ran past Israeli military posts as well as gas and fuel pipelines.

It called on Egypt to investigate the shooting.

The announcement stressed that the tunnel constituted a blatant violation of Israeli sovereignty, endangering the citizens of Israel and sabotaging the humanitarian efforts that Israel is making for the citizens of Gaza.

The tunnel belonged to Hamas and could have been used to smuggle weapons and terrorists from Egypt into the Gaza Strip. The Israeli fighter jets struck the tunnel at the Gaza entrance point. "The destruction of the network of attack tunnels is an essential part of our policy of systematically harming Hamas' strategic capabilities".

Two people dead after homicide in Brampton home
Police say that they believe that the homicide is an "isolated incident" and that there are "no public safety concerns". A 60-year-old woman and her 32-year-old daughter were stabbed to death in their Brampton home on Friday night.

According to official Palestinian media, that "infrastructure" was farmland in the southern Gaza Strip, prompting many to assume that it was, in fact, a tunnel beneath the field.

Meanwhile, Israeli Ynet News has reported that Israel has also decided not to open Karam Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing, Sunday, following an assessment by the army, and added that the military did not provide any details for the reason behind the move.

Upon departing to India on a diplomatic mission, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the significance of the operation. "There are people who say that the IDF attacks sand dunes - this isn't true. Hamas needs to understand that we will not allow these offensives, and that we will respond with even greater might".

Tensions between Israel and Palestinians flared up after US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and relocate US embassy to the city from Tel Aviv. Palestinians in Gaza have launched 18 cross-border rockets or mortars and 15 protesters and two gunmen have been killed by Israeli fire.
