About 650,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled from Rakhine state and sought refuge in neighbouring Bangladesh in recent months after a violent crackdown there by Myanmar security forces in response to attacks by militants.

Till now, more than six lakh Rohingyas have fled Myanmar and have taken shelter in Bangladesh.

Hundreds of Rohingya were systematically killed and raped in the Rakhine village of Tula Toli as security forces trapped people along a riverbank in late August, Human Rights Watch said in a report released Tuesday.

Myanmar criticised her statement as biased and unfair.

Not only the US Government, but the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees too termed the violence against Rohingyas as "ethnic cleansing".

Delwar Hossain, director of the East Asia Study Center of Dhaka University, told The Wire that the Myanmar government has been trying to strong-arm Bangladesh into accepting an unacceptable and damaging status quo.

Yanghee Lee had been due to visit in January to review Myanmar's human rights, including alleged attacks on Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state.

Amnesty International called Myanmar's decision to ban Lee "outrageous".

White House doctor says Trump aced cognitive test
The doctor also said he administered the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA ), at Trump's request, and the president aced it. Donald Trump could have lived to 200 if he gave up his beloved cheeseburgers, the White House presidential physician joked .

"We have seen that some United Nations officials had given their comments and opinions on Myanmar even before they visited", he said.

The list also included former Gambian leader Yahya Jammeh, accused of human rights abuses and corruption, and Israeli billionaire Dan Gertler, accused of using his friendship with Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila to secure sweetheart mining deals. "And I'm sure the world has to find a way to make it work", she said. "If they want to do a blessing this is the best place, if they want to serve their religion this is the best place", the prime minister said.

"Refusing to collaborate with her means the current government is doing the same as military governments did in the past", Aung Myo Min said, referring to the 50 years when an army junta ruled the country following a coup in 1962.

Speaking from one of the refugee camps in neighboring Bangladesh, the 24-year-old said she witnessed her husband and father-in-law being killed.

Tillerson said the sanctions would help ensure the security of the US and its allies and shows America's commitment to protecting human rights and fighting corruption.

Activists admit that it is the right of Rohingyas to return to their homeland, however, warn both the Bangladesh and Myanmar governments not to take any hasty steps in regard to the repatriation of refugees as the situation in the Rakhine State is still not conducive.

Most people in Myanmar describe the Muslims in Rakhine as interlopers from Bangladesh and not one of the country's ethnic groups, despite their having lived in the area for generations.

Myanmar's civilian leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, has faced fierce global criticism for failing to do more to protect the Rohingya.
