On Heels of Tax Bill Savings, Apple Touts $30B US Investment Plan

Tim Cook makes surprise appearance at Toronto Apple Store to tout 'Everyone Can Code'

In an interview with, Cook discussed a number of recent announcements by Apple, including their plan to invest $350 billion in the USA economy over the next five years and how President Trump's tax plan will help the US economy.

Trump took to Twitter to praise Apple - and, of course, take credit for creating jobs in the USA through the massive tax overhaul. That number also includes the approximately $38 billion the company anticipates paying to bring home its overseas cash horde.

Combining new investments and Apple's current pace of spending with domestic suppliers and manufacturers - an estimated $55 billion for 2018 - Apple's direct contribution to the United States economy will be more than $350 billion over the next five years, not including Apple's ongoing tax payments, the tax revenues generated from employees' wages and the sale of Apple products. "There are two parts of tax bill, there's a corporate piece and an individual piece". The company said that figure included both new investments and current spending on domestic supplies and manufacturing partners, but not its ongoing tax payments, taxes from employee wages, or money generated through the sale of Apple products in the U.S. Apple will reportedly be focusing on three areas in the future: direct employment by Apple, spending and investment with USA suppliers and manufacturers, and helping to grow the thriving app-store economy. Infrastructure projects include a new Apple campus, whose location will be announced later this year, and $10 billion in ongoing investment in USA data centers.

Demonstrators denounce Trump, march for #MeToo movement across the US
Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas; Alicia Garza, co-founder of Black Lives Matter and actress Marisa Tomei are slated to speak. Trump took to Twitter to offer support to the women and all that were participating in women across the country.

One of those projects - a new facility in Reno, Nev. - got underway today, just in time for the photo-op.

"We believe deeply in the power of American ingenuity", said Cook, "and we are focusing our investments in areas where we can have a direct impact on and job preparedness".
