Pres. Trump accuses Federal Bureau of Investigation agent of 'treason' in newspaper interview

US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump said in an interview that text messages exchanged between two agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation involved in the Russian Federation probe were treasonous, US media reported.

The Washington Post reported in December that while Strzok was working on the FBI's investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server to conduct government business, he exchanged texts expressing anti-Trump sentiment with an FBI lawyer, Lisa Page, with whom The Post said he was engaging in an extramarital affair.

US President Donald Trump speaks about his 12-day trip to Asia, fair trade, and the economy, at the White House on November 15, 2017 in Washington, DC. The Justice Department turned over the copies of the messages to Congress later.

At one point, he was asked about a controversy surrounding former Federal Bureau of Investigation counterintelligence official Peter Strzok and Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer Lisa Page.

Aitan Goelman, an attorney for, told the Journal: "It is beyond reckless for the president of the United States to accuse Pete Strzok, a man who has devoted his entire adult life to defending this country, of treason".

Trump and his allies latched onto the revelations previous year to paint Mueller's investigation and the FBI as biased against him. It's true that President Trump frequently says ridiculous things.
