Singh resigns with immediate effect

Gallo Images Former Eskom and Transnet CFO Anoj Singh

The South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) on Tuesday called for former Eskom chief financial officer Anoj Singh to be criminally charged for corruption and impropriety.

In a statement, the power utility said its newly appointed board has accepted Singh's resignation.

"Eskom has today received, through Mr Anoj Singh's attorneys, a formal letter of resignation by Mr Singh from his position as the Chief Financial Officer, in line with the terms of his employment contract".

He was placed on special leave in July 2017 and suspended in September.

This comes after Singh, through his attorneys, resigned with immediate effect from Eskom on Monday night.

North Korea will send 22 athletes to Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang
The North Korean delegation is set to arrive by a land-based route, which means that it will cross the heavily fortified border. But the two Koreas still needed approval from the IOC, as the pact required the suspension of some basic Olympic rules.

The board of Eskom accepted Singh's resignation. He is now appearing before the Eskom inquiry to answer to allegations that he was involved in Gupta-linked tender irregularities.

Koko and Singh are expected to testify at a Parliamentary inquiry into mismanagement of funds at the power utility.

The inquiry also wants to hear from Matshela Koko this week, who, before he was axed on Sunday, was reinstated after a disciplinary hearing. The committee's chair, Daphne Rantho, had accused Singh of trying to undermine parliament.

"Ibhodi lakwa-Eskom likwamukele ukwesula kwakhe, labazisa nabameli baMnu Singh".
