Texans extend O'Brien, hire Gaine

Texans hire Brian Gaine as GM Bill O'Brien receives 4-year extension

Head coach Bill O'Brien, who was set to enter the final year of his original five-year contract, has been given an extension. After back-to-back AFC South titles in 2015 and 2016, the Texans finished 4-12. He is familiar to Houstonians, spending three seasons in a pair of front office personnel roles before departing for Buffalo a year ago. Texans owner Bob McNair hailed O'Brien after the team announced the deal, which ends widespread speculation over his future with the team.

Gaine spent three seasons with the Houston Texans before leaving for the Buffalo Bills as the VP of Player Personnel in May of 2017.

In a statement, Gaine expressed his gratitude to the McNair family for the opportunity, and praised Bill O'Brien. He was the Buffalo Bills' vice president of player personnel last season. "We have a lot of trust in him to build a unified, championship culture and we're thrilled to have him as our head coach into the future". They also hired a new general manager after Rick Smith announced that he would be taking a leave of absence during his wife's breast cancer treatment. The team lost standout rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson to a torn ACL, while defensive lineman J.J. Watt and linebacker Whitney Mercilus were also sidelined. "We couldn't be more excited about naming him our new general manager", he said.

Court Documents Reveal New Details in Las Vegas Shooting
Ten pages of the search warrant documents remained sealed ahead of a Nevada state court hearing scheduled for Tuesday. Paddock wrote back that he wanted to try several scopes and different types of ammunition.

"He has a great knowledge of both the pro and college side of things", O'Brien said of Gaine last week before the hire was made.

A year ago, some believed O'Brien wanted out.
