With crass epithet, Trump reportedly dismisses African, Latino immigration

The Trump administration and lawmakers on Capitol Hill are trying to thrash out an immigration strategy ahead of a budget deadline later this month.

The White House did not deny the account of Trump's use of language, but instead suggested the president was "fighting for permanent solutions" that strengthen the nation, in part through the use of a merit-based immigration system.

Fellow Utahan, Sen. Orrin Hatch, a staunch Trump ally, said: "I look forward to getting a more detailed explanation regarding the President's comments". A list maintained by the Washington-based American Foreign Service Association says eight such posts are vacant. The White House has not denied the language, nor have the several Republican lawmakers in the meeting.

The UN refugee agency spokesman William Spindler said that "people forced to flee war or persecution and needing asylum should be given protection by whichever country they are in, irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity or place or country of origin".

"He has not only insulted Africans, he has also insulted African-Americans", said Sylvester Odion Akhaine, associate professor of global relations at Lagos State University in Nigeria.

During a Thursday meeting with lawmakers on immigration reform, Trump demanded to know why the U.S. should accept citizens from what he called "shithole" countries, according to comments first reported by the Washington Post.

Proof lies in the fact that the White House did not react to Trump's "shithole" comments with panic or any sense that he had detonated a damaging gaffe that could cause him lasting political damage.

Late Thursday, Trump was pushing for "a Great Wall" and criticizing Democrats' stance on immigration, highlighting the difficulties for any negotiations.

"Wall was not properly funded, Chain & Lottery were made worse and United States of America would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime countries, which are doing badly".

MLK parade canceled after funding pulled amid protest threat
Posting of "No Parking Zone" notices along the parade route has been completed. "It's just not happening at this point", he said. Organizers have 5 days to appeal and the city would have 5 days to respond after an appeal is filed.

The African Union continental body told The Associated Press it was "frankly alarmed" by Trump's reported comments.

Yet the remark still has the power to shock because it upends conventional expectations about the dignity of the presidency itself and the mystique that frames the chief executive as the upholder of national morality and diversity.

The US ambassador to Panama has resigned in protest at US president Donald Trump's alleged description of African and other countries as "shitholes". But it wasn't just Democrats objecting.

Although it is being taken as a denial of the "sh*thole" comment, Mr. Trump did not specifically reference that phrase in his denial.

When he launched his presidential campaign, he referred to Mexicans as "rapists", and a year ago he said there were good people on "both sides" of clashes between neo-Nazis and protesters in Charlottesville. On Friday he plans to sign a proclamation honoring Martin Luther King Day.

Critics also have questioned his mental fitness to serve as president, citing his inability to muster some policy details and his tweets asserting his "nuclear button" is bigger than North Korea's.

The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to publicly describe the conversation. One said lawmakers in the room were taken aback by Trump's remarks. It borders the Dominican Republic on the island of Hisapiola, south-east of Cuba and the United States. Trump wrote, "I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians". "Let me be clear: the people of Haiti have been through more - they've been through more, they've withstood more, they've fought back against more injustice than our president ever has".

The agreement that Durbin and Sen.

Trump's insults - along with his rejection of the bipartisan immigration deal that six senators had drafted - also threatened to further complicate efforts to extend protections for hundreds of thousands of young immigrants, many of whom were brought to this country as children and now are here illegally. "But in general we are not wanting to be flattered by this USA president in this way".
