England scrum against Georgia during Six Nations rest week

Eddie Jones has defended Mike Brown his first choice full-back

Eddie Jones accused World Rugby of indulging in "retrospective refereeing" after the governing body said a mistake had been made in failing to award Wales a try during England's 12-6 Six Nations win at Twickenham.

His assistant Howley has claimed Alain Rolland, the former referee who heads up World Rugby's team of elite match officials, has spoken to the Wales camp to admit to the error on behalf of his personnel.

After beating Wales 12-6 last weekend, England are preparing to face Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday, 24 February when Ireland host Wales in Dublin.

On Tuesday, World Rugby agreed with Gatland.

"I know Warren Gatland spoke to Alain Rolland, and they confirmed that the TMO made a mistake", Howley told reporters.

"We have a guy up there who is a referee and he has time to make the right decision and if he can't make the right decision, what can we do?"

"We want to win the Six Nations but we're also using this as a trial for the World Cup, so it's a great opportunity for us to get some really quality scrum practice in".

'I just think once the game's done and dusted, that's the game. That's one of the traditions of rugby, you get on with it, you respect that decision.

'We've got to trust the referees, respect their integrity.

The process was very bad because even after making the decision to disallow the try he said to the referee that it'd be an attacking scrum five metres out but that was never going to be the case because it came from a kick from Rhys Patchell and then off Evans' knee.

So far this year his attempt at mind-games has included; during the Six Nations launch when he insisted Ireland were favourites, prior to the Welsh game when he criticised Alun Wyn Jones for something he didn't do and then later before that game when he had several jibes at Welsh fly-half Rhys Patchell.

"It was an arm wrestle against Wales and one side has to give and they're the most pleasing games to win" Jones said.

Jerome Garces was playing advantage after an earlier infringement anyway, so it went back for a penalty and that was inconsequential but it just shows that he was panicking.
