Kenyan court revokes deportation of opposition-linked lawyer

Fred Matiangi_Gordon Kihalangwa

On Thursday, a Kenyan court revoked the deportation of a lawyer who "swore in" opposition leader Raila Odinga as the country's "president" in a direct challenge to the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta, local TV station Citizen reported.

Further, Dr Matiang'i argues that the issue of deportation of Dr Miguna is pending before another High Court judge and can not be adjudicated upon without a valid hearing.

In a statement, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho says the high court ruling ordering the director of Immigration Gordon Kuhalangwa to within 7 days surrender Miguna's passport to the court is not in the best interests of the country.

High Court has declared the deportation of Miguna Miguna to Canada illegal.

Last week, the vocal lawyer was controversially deported to Canada after being held for five days.

According to the judge, Miguna's deportation lacked legal merit.

Dead In Multi-Vehicle Crash In Suffolk County
The crash happened on Route 25 near Woodlot Road in Ridge in Suffolk County at about 11:20 a.m., police said. The Mazda burst into flames and four people inside died, police said.

The judge ordered Boinnet and Kinoti to make a written undertaking within seven days pledging to comply and give effect to court orders so as to purge their contempt.

He cited eight recent instances, which he called "evidence of bias, double standards, impunity and poor leadership on the part of the judiciary", including Odinga's boycott of the repeat vote, which Maraga did not condemn.

The lawyers, who carried placards with the words "Government Obey Court Orders", urged Kenya's top court to take action against state officials who continue to violate the law.

Miguna said in a tweet after the ruling that: "We shall use the CONSTITUTION as the SPEAR and the SHIELD in the fight against the despots".

"We, the NRM, Kenyan patriots and freedom fighters, believe in and are fully committed to the rule of law".
