Japanese snowboarder Yuto Totsuka avoids'big injury in horrifying crash

Emergency medical personnel came to Totsuka's aid and loaded him onto a cart before taking him off the course.

As you can see below, Yuto got way too much air on his first jump and ended up hitting the lip of the pipe before dropping like 20 feet headfirst into the snow.

The 16-year-old was taken to the hospital with "no big injury" except pain in his hip, according to Japan's press officer via USA Today. "He was moving, but getting dragged off on a stretcher", the Washington Post's Adam Kilgore wrote on Twitter.

Many have slammed the event organisers for forcing them to compete in the windy conditions which have radically impacted their performances. Enni Rukajarvi, who picked up bronze, said: "It was pretty bad".

Rukajarvi also slammed the organisers for allowing the competition to continue despite the unsafe conditions.

Totsuka smacked into the ground, falling face-first into the middle of the halfpipe, lying still.
