Police Working on Site at UK Parliament After Suspicious Package Found

Police swoop on Westminster

A suspicious package delivered to an office in the Houses of Parliament contained "non-harmful" white powder, a House of Commons spokeswoman has said.

The Metropolitan Police are investigating a suspicious package that had been delivered to an office within the Palace of Westminster.

A Met spokesman said: "The letter contained a white powder which is now being assessed by specialists".

The rest of Parliament remains open.

Detectives from the Metropolitan's Counter Terrorism Command were investigating Tuesday's incident at the Houses of Parliament.

The discovery comes just a day after Donald Trump Jr's wife Vanessa was rushed to hospital in NY after opening a letter with white powder inside.

But despite armed police dealing with the incident in a basement under the ministerial corridor, the incident did not create a larger emergency on the Parliamentary estate.

A section of Parliament has been placed in lockdown after a "suspicious package" was found in a corridor.

Officers later affirmed that the substance routed to the home secretary was innocuous.

One anonymous officer in Speaker's Court said that authority associates were analyzing a bundle left in the Palace of Westminster.

No extra officers were visible at the main entrance at Carriage Gates.

A House of Commons representative affirmed before that officers were "examining an episode".

Theresa May and her colleagues are not now in the building thanks to a parliamentary recess.
