Spyro Remaster On The Way, Launching Q3 This Year

Insomniac Games

A trio of remastered Spyro games are coming to PlayStation 4 this year, Kotaku reports. (1999), and "Spyro: Year of the Dragon" (2000), have been undergoing a remastering process and will be unveiled in March for a late 2018 release on PlayStation 4, according to Laura Kate Dale writing for Kotaku UK. Apparently, Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage!, and Year of the Dragon will be the trio of games featured in the trilogy. Similar to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy that came out last summer, the Spyro remaster will "feature new assets, lighting, animations and cinematics, as well as a remastered soundtrack". Previously unseen content cut from the original games will be included in the remasters as well. PS4 initially anyway - it's rumoured to be exclusive to Sony for a year after release, after which time its open season. And each of the initial trilogy's titles were well received so Vicarious Visions has a solid foundation to build upon.

The report claims an official announcement is coming in March, ahead of an expected release in the third quarter of 2018. While we wait, head down to the comments section and let us know if you'd be interested in replaying the Spyro trilogy should Activision decides to remaster it.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was announced in 2016 and launched in June 2017. The two mascots have made cameos in each others' games before; Crash even appears in an episode of Spyro's Netflix show, Skylander's Academy.

Shaun White wins USA's 100th all-time Winter Olympic gold medal
He busted his face in New Zealand a year ago while attempting one of those 1440s, leaving an injury that required 62 stitches. Shaun White's reaction to winning the gold medal tells you everything you need to know about how badly he wanted it.

It appears that Vicarious Visions, the same team that handled the Crash Bandicoot remake, is helming Spyro's as well.

Spyro the Dragon was one of the first games I ever played, along with Crash Bandicoot, MediEvil and Ape Escape, so rumors of this remaster lit a tiny fire in my heart. Eventually, the Skylanders brand would supersede the Spyro name, with the purple dragon becoming little more than a supporting player in the series he spawned.
