VP Mike Pence Savages 'Media Fawning' Over North Korea at the Olympics

Speed skater Jong Kwang Bom of North Korea falls at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang South Korea

Administration officials acknowledge that Ivanka Trump, who will arrive in South Korea on Friday to watch the closing ceremony of the Games, could smooth some of the tensions that flared during the vice-president's visit, even if they insist that is not the goal of her trip.

A high-level North Korean delegation will also attend the closing ceremony, but the South Korean government said it's unlikely that Trump will meet the North Koreans.

"We will keep standing strong until North Korea stops threatening our country, our allies or until they abandon their nuclear and ballistic missiles once and for all".

Chol's presence at the closing ceremonies will not be ignored by the Trump administration, the official said.

"The objective of the trip is to cheer on American athletes, reaffirm the US-South Korea alliance and celebrate the successful Games", the official said.

Vice President Pence sat just a row away from the younger Kim and other senior North Korean officials at the opening, but did not exchange a word with anyone from the delegation.

"I am honored to lead the USA delegation to the closing ceremonies of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics", Trump said in a statement obtained by Politico.

Ms Kim's mere presence as the first family member to visit South Korea was a very newsworthy event.

When asked whether both Trump and North Korean delegates would be invited to a VIP reception before the Closing Ceremony, the spokesman declined to comment, saying he doesn't yet know how it will pan out.

Armed deputy failed to confront gunman at USA shooting
Nikolas Cruz , a 19-year-old former student, was later arrested and charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder in the assault. Last Wednesday's shooting wasn't the first time Peterson was expected to deal with the alleged gunman, Nikolas Cruz .

But he said North Korea's participation in the Olympic games in Pyeongchang has raised hopes and expectations around the world.

The man is Kim Yong Chol, vice chairman of the central committee of the North's ruling Workers' Party of Korea.

He is a controversial figure - and his upcoming visit has been met with hostility in South Korea. That why he's dispatching his own Kim Yo-Jong to the closing Olympic ceremony.

A potential high-level interaction between the US and North Korea, which would have broken years of estrangement between the two countries, loomed prominently over the Winter Games, where North Korea in a last-minute move sent 22 athletes to compete on a combined team with South Korea, the host of the games.

The money was mostly spent on accommodation, transportation and food for the four members of the delegation and their 18 staff members. The South Korean ship was split in half by a torpedo, which investigators claim was sacked by a North Korean submarine.

The North Koreans backed out of the planned meeting after Mr. Pence announced that Washington would soon unveil its "toughest and most aggressive sanctions" against Pyongyang.

Unification ministry spokesman Baek said the sinking of the Cheonan was "certainly the North's work" but sought to play down Kim Yong Chol's role.

South Korean media said Moon would emphasize the importance of holding U.S.
