Daniel Theis will reportedly have season-ending knee surgery

Daniel Theis

Boston Celtics big man Daniel Theis will undergo season-ending surgery after tearing the meniscus in his left knee, according to Yahoo's Shams Charania.

Stevens says the team will need to adjust with Theis out.

Theis got hurt during the final minute of Boston's 99-97 loss to the Pacers on Sunday (Monday, Manila time).

The 25-year-old National Basketball Association rookie from Germany had become an integral part of the Celtics' bench unit with averages of 7.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and one block in 18.4 minutes per game since the All-Star break.

Brunson would be Villanova's first-ever Naismith victor and the first junior to win since Ohio State's Evan Turner in 2010. Last week, he was named the Freshman of the Year and a first-team All-American by the U.S.

The Celtics are also dealing with injuries to second-year pro Jaylen Brown (concussion) and star Kyrie Irving (knee).

Boston (46-21) now has a firm grip on the second seed in the Eastern Conference, but lost Theis, Marcus Smart and All-Star guard Kyrie Irving to injuries in Sunday's loss to Indiana.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens told reporters Monday that the injury-plagued team will recall fellow rookie Guerschon Yabusele from their G League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, and does not plan to otherwise add any new players.
