Dzeko's lone strike takes Roma to Champions League quarter-finals

Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk betting preview

1 - The Ukrainian side are aiming to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign - which they did so by beating Roma 6-2 on aggregate in the round of 16.

- Shakhtar Donetsk failed to register a single shot on target against Roma in this match.

Cengiz Under's goal and a string of Alisson saves in a 2-1 away first-leg defeat had kept Roma in the tie, and Eusebio Di Francesco's men edged to victory in the return to reach the quarter-finals despite a dismal display in which Dzeko's victor was scarcely deserved.

Roma opened the scoring seven minutes into the second half when Kevin Strootman played Dzeko through on goal with a defence-splitting pass and he made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 1-0.

But Dzeko rescued the Italian giants with a strike after 52 minutes to bring their quarter final hopes back to life.

"We achieved something that's been missing for 10 years and are now prepared to face anyone in the last eight".

Broncos Going After Keenum At Quarterback
The veteran quarterback completedly almost 68 percent of his passes and posted a 3-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio. What the signing of Keenuum shows most is the discrepancy in opinion among National Football League front offices.

Shakhtar were unlucky not to get an away goal of their own early on when Roma's Alessandro Florenzi nearly headed an in-swinging free-kick into his own net with a glancing clearance.

Roma's first chance of the game came on 25 minutes as Aleksandar Kolarov played a low ball from the byline into the path of Edin Dzeko, but Andriy Pyatov saved at the Bosnian's feet.

The home side came out with renewed objective in the second half and Dzeko delighted their vocal fans when he broke the deadlock with a trademark clinical finish.

Shakhtar, who controlled possession throughout the first half, went down a man in the 79th minute when Ivan Ordets was shown a straight red card for taking down Dzeko from behind just outside the penalty area.

Roma's former captain Francesco Totti, who watched anxiously from the terraces, was overjoyed at fulltime.

"A fantastic result, a fantastic Roma: among the best eight sides in Europe", he posted.
