Facebook has banned far-right party Britain First and its leaders

Facebook removes pages of far-right British group

Britain First and the group's recently jailed leaders Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen have had their pages removed from facebook.

Facebook has erased the page belonging to Britain First, a notorious anti-Islamic political group whose videos were previously shared online by President Trump.

The group gained prominence in November when U.S. President Donald Trump retweeted some of its anti-Muslim videos, angering British leaders.

The Britain First page and the pages for both Golding and Fransen have now been removed for "repeatedly [posting] content created to incite animosity and hatred against minority groups".

The social media monolith also targeted party leaders Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen for repeatedly breaking Facebook's rules governing content.

The social media giant said it had blacklisted Britain First for repeatedly violating rules created to stop the incitement of hatred against minority groups.

Britain First, an ultranationalist fringe party that is often described as an extremist organization, had more than 2 million likes before it was removed from the platform, according to BuzzFeed, whose 2017 analysis showed how a small group of people who engaged with Britain First's far-right content were able to spread the posts across the web.

How will President Trump's aluminum and steel tariff affect Laredo?
A senior European diplomat in Beijing said China would be relieved to see Europe and Washington at odds over the metals tariffs. Vice President Jusuf Kalla said the country had the option of retaliating against imports of USA soybeans, wheat and aircraft.

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, weighed in on Facebook's actions taken against Britain First via a tweet, saying "Britain First is a vile and hate-fuelled group whose sole goal is to sow division".

The group's accounts were later suspended by Twitter.

Facebook confirmed the violating content included an image of the group's leaders with the caption "Islamophobic and Proud" and multiple videos which Facebook said had been posted deliberately to incite hateful comments against Muslims.

"We are an open platform for all ideas and political speech goes to the heart of free expression". But political views can and should be expressed without hate, ' the social network said.

"Political parties, like individuals and all other organisations on Facebook, must abide by these standards and where a Page or person repeatedly breaks our Community Standards we remove them". In addition, after the retweet, Twitter and YouTube took action against the group. May has, since that time, spoken out numerous times demanding social media companies do more to combat extremism content.

The move follows appeals by other facebook users, including some in Thanet, to have the pages taken down.
