As mentioned, the Versa marks the debut of Fitbit OS 2.0, a significant new update to Fitbit's smartwatch software.
Most importantly, perhaps, is Versa's $200 price.
The Fitbit Versa is a departure from the Ionic on the design front, which is a good thing. The Ionic is bulky, angular, and not suitable for every size wrist - the Versa gets rid of all those pain points. Fitbit claims it's made the lightest metal smartwatch sold on the USA market, and it's hard not to see some Pebble DNA in here. I got a chance to take a look at the Versa at a special launch event in New York City, along with Fitbit's first fitness tracker for children, the Ace. That's coming later this spring, Fitbit says.
Fitbit, a maker of popular activity trackers and the Ionic smartwatch, has introduced a number of new products, as well as revealed it will add women's health-tracking features to its platform. Several existing apps serve similar purposes, but Fitbit wanted to make it possible for women to view this data in the same place as their other health stats. This is all thanks to Fitbit's proprietary cycle algorithm that supposedly gets smarter and more accurate as you log your period. The best part? All of this menstrual cycle data is available right on your wrist.
As far as music goes, Fitbit partnered with Deezer and Pandora; if you're a premium subscriber to either of those music services, you can download playlists (up to 300 songs) directly to the watch and listen to them without your phone nearby.
What's different is that the Versa will feature more personalized insights. The Fitbit app logs your weight, sleep, workouts, heart rate, food intake and, now, your periods; it then gives you insights based on analyzing all of that data. Fitbit's Deezer partnership is going global, while users in the USA also get Pandora (sorry, Europe). Android users will get a new text message feature that allows them to send quick replies from their watches.
In other words, it's now possible to build and adequately test any apps you're creating without the need for any hardware. The Ace is available to preorder now in blue or purple and will ship in the second quarter of this year. The Fitbit Versa Special Edition-the one that includes Fitbit Pay-will sell for $229.95. It's hard not to think of this as a cash grab for the USA market.
Luckily you won't have to pay an arm and a leg for this device. The Versa will also include numerous health features Fitbit introduced in previous products, like its PurePulse heart rate monitor, a virtual coach that guides wearers through exercises, various exercise modes and more.
The Fitbit Versa will come in three colors: all black, grey and rose gold. Special Edition models also come with a black classic band in the box.
The Versa is available for pre-order now on Fitbit's website right for £199.99 and will start shipping in April.
Whereas last year's Ionic looked very much like a runner's watch, the Versa has a sleeker, polished appearance that more closely resembles the Apple Watch.
It dived, as 112 investors sold GE shares while 818 reduced holdings. 118 funds opened positions while 525 raised stakes. The company reported $0.82 earnings per share for the quarter, beating analysts' consensus estimates of $0.70 by $0.12.
