Former Minnesota Vikings QB Case Keenum to sign with Denver Broncos

Case Keenum is reportedly leaving Minnesota to play with the Denver Broncos. More

In case you didn't realize it, Keenum played at a very high level for the Vikings this past year, and it wasn't a case of the team carrying a bad quarterback on their backs.

Which version of Case Keenum are the Denver Broncos going to get - the player who we saw in Houston and St. Louis, or the player we saw previous year in Minnesota?

The Broncos also considered Kirk Cousins and had some discussions about Teddy Bridgewater, who was a teammate of Keenum's this past season with the Minnesota Vikings. Cousins is now deciding between the Vikings, the New York Jets and the Arizona Cardinals, Schefter reported.

The Vikings, who were subsequently blown out at Philadelphia in the conference championship, made a decision to let all three of their QBs - Keenum, Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater - test free agency.

Bradford is also a free agent.

The 30-year-old will look to help steer the Broncos to a bounce-back season after they went 5-11 in 2017.

Keenum worked with former Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak, now a senior personnel advisor in Denver's front office, with the Houston Texans from 2012-13 having joined as an undrafted free agent.

Keenum would have veterans Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders as his targets in Denver after Elway chose not to release either of the expensive wide receivers.

"Even with Peyton, we weren't a for-sure thing with Peyton, " Elway said. We just have to figure out a way to get it right. It is not certain yet what sort of contract that Keenum, who made $2 million last season, will get.

Broncos quarterback John Elway has talked repeatedly during the offseason about the need to get better at quarterback.

"I still think we're not too far away, " Elway said. We didn't play well there a year ago. There were some things that we should have done differently that we didn't do.
