Man dies after Houthi missile barrage targets Saudi Arabia

Missiles fired at Saudi Arabia by Houthi rebels that left one person dead in the capital were supplied by Iran, the Saudi led-coalition supporting Yemen's government said.

Saudi state television said Yemen's Houthis fired two missiles toward Saudi late Sunday and Saudi air defense succeeded in intercepting one over Riyadh, and another over Jazan in the Saudi border with Yemen.

One Egyptian was killed and two of his countrymen were wounded by falling shrapnel in Riyadh, authorities said, with residents reporting loud explosions and bright flashes in the sky shortly before midnight.

The United States strongly condemns the risky Houthi missile attacks aimed at several cities in Saudi Arabia Sunday night. One missile was sacked towards Khamis Mushait in the province of Asir, another towards Najran and the other two at Jizan.

The rebels have periodically fired missiles into Saudi territory and Saudi forces announced Sunday night they had intercepted seven more, including over Riyadh.

The United Nations says 10,000 people have died in the war, and three out of four Yemenis, 22 million civilians, need relief aid.

"We praise the successful advance of military capabilities", political council chief Saleh al-Samad told the crowd in Sanaa on Monday. "Iran has enabled the conflict in Yemen to spill into neighbouring countries and undermines worldwide efforts to resolve the conflict, exacerbating the suffering of the Yemeni people".

The UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain said they stood behind Saudi Arabia and supported its efforts to defend itself.

Bishop says government 'not considering' World Cup boycott after Russian spy attack
A report from London newspaper The Sun suggests Australia is one of a number of countries that are likely to join this action.

A Saudi-led military coalition intervened in Yemen on March 26, 2015 to restore the government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi after the Iran-backed Huthis and their allies took over large parts of the country including the capital Sanaa.

The North African country expressed its "extreme concern" over "this unsafe escalation", and reaffirmed solidarity with and support for "the brotherly Saudi Arabia in its struggle against any attempt aiming at undermining its security and stability".

Even the Egypt's Foreign Ministry expressed condemnation of the attack.

War songs, poems and speeches condemning the United States, the main arms supplier for the Saudi-led coalition, echoed across the square.

The Houthis are backed by Iran and its members follow the Shia Islamic branch of Zaidism.

Mr Guterres is due to meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is on a visit to the USA, at United Nations headquarters in NY on Tuesday to discuss Yemen.

This is not the first time Saudi Arabia has been the target of missile strikes from Yemen and after previous interceptions, the Saudis have responded with airstrikes on Sanaa.

Lewis said it was "entirely possible" that the defense-system failure rather than the missiles themselves led to any casualties or injuries.
