Microsoft is apparently facing 238 complaints of gender discrimination

This post highlighted work environment in only one tech company in the Silicon Valley.

According to the recent court filling made public on Monday, female employees working at Microsoft Corp. based in the US registered 238 internal complaints regarding gender discrimination and sexual harassment during the period, 2010-2016. The complaints in question were made between 2010 and 2016, and include systemically denying pay increases and promotions to women working in the company. Microsoft denied the claims. The lawsuit that was filed in 2015 gained a lot of prominence across the world following a resignation or firing of powerful men from entertainment, media, and politics over allegation of sexual harassment.

Attorneys of plaintiffs have been making moves to make Microsoft lawsuits a class action. This would cover almost 8,000 women. More details about Microsoft's human resources practices were made public on Monday in legal filings submitted as part of that process. The plaintiff's attorneys called the large number of complaints "shocking" and dubbed Microsoft's "investigation team" "lackluster". Microsoft's internal review found that only one of thegender discrimination cases had merit and was "founded". Moreover, many complaints have been kept private by companies.

Microsoft maintains that there is no larger pattern of discrimination, and it's hard to say how that number compares to competitors.

Microsoft said the plaintiffs' claims are not enough to warrant a class action lawsuit and claimed the company spent $55 million a year to "promote diversity and inclusion".

Capitals' Alex Ovechkin becomes 20th National Hockey League player to score 600 goals
The 32-year-old Russian , who scored earlier in the game, reached the 600-goal landmark in 990 games played. Ovechkin is on pace for his highest point total since the 2009-10 season.

Microsoft said the plaintiffs can not cite one example of a payor promotion problem in which Microsoft's investigations team should have found a violation of company policy, but did not.

US District Judge James Robart has not yet ruled on the plaintiffs' request for class-action status.

Microsoft had argued the numbers shouldn't be released as they might deter it from reporting future abuses, but Reuters reported that a court-appointed official said this was "far too remote a competitive or business harm".

Furthermore, the plaintiffs alleged there isn't a monitor for repeat offenders or retaliation against the complainant, and Redmond doesn't mandate training in discrimination, anti-harassment or complaint handling.
