Microsoft offers to help Ghana man teaching computing on a chalkboard

He goes by the nickname of "Owura Kwadwo Hottish" on Facebook, which was where the photos went viral.

A basic school teacher whose heroics went viral after images of him teaching ICT on a board went viral has received the attention of Microsoft.

"Teaching of ICT in Ghana's school is very amusing", Richard Akoto, who goes by Owura Kwadwo online, said in a Facebook post alongside the photos.

'This is not my first time [of drawing] it. However, Akoto says that the school needs about 50 computers for his classes to really impart ICT education to the students.

Mr Akoto's school has not had computers since 2011, despite the students needing to pass an ICT exam as part of their course requirement. They gained particular prominence when a popular Ghanaian comedian, who is also a teacher, shared it with his 140,000 Facebook fans, meaning it wasn't long for the world to start sharing in a sort of global digital applause.

"I like posting pictures on Facebook so I just felt like [sharing it]".

The teacher drew Microsoft Word on the blackboard to enable his students understand it.

"I have been doing this every time the lesson I'm teaching demands it", he said.

Cameroonian tech entrepreneur Rebecca Enonchong pointed him out to Microsoft on Twitter and the company promised to equip him with "a device from one of our partners, and access to our MCE program" aside from free professional development resources.

"Surely you can get him some proper resources", she twitted.

In Ghana, there have been calls for more resources to help rural schools like Betenase which "struggles with teaching logistics challenges".
