MoviePass CEO now denies the app tracked customers without their knowledge

MoviePass CEO clarifies earlier statements regarding location tracking By Ida Torres

"We never reveal any information that will let them know who bought what".

"I said something completely inaccurate as far as what we are doing... If you get in your auto and drive five miles, we don't know where you are or where you are going".

He confirmed that the app only checks the location of the customers when checking for the nearest participating theatre, and when they check in to the theatre, so the app can verify their credit card. The site's FAQ section includes a question that asks "could you eventually sell my personal data to a third party in the future?"

Last week, MoviePass released a cryptic update for its iOS app that "removed unused location capabilities".

Lowe says the only time the MoviePass app actually knows a user's location is when they open the app to find theaters around them or when they check in at the theater to make sure they are at the right theater for where they purchased their tickets. Previously, the app gave users Apple's three standard privacy options: never track; track when using the app; and always track. "We never used it, and it was confusing to have it there", Lowe said.

Indian Wells Masters: World No. 1 Roger Federer wins rain-delayed match
South African seventh seed Kevin Anderson also prevailed in his second round match, 7-5 6-4 over Russian Evgeny Donskoy. If the surgery wasn't enough, Djokovic looked like he had been suffering from illness on the eve of Indian Wells .

According to Lowe, about "half a dozen" customers said they canceled their service over the privacy concerns.

MoviePass now touts 2 million subscribers, and Lowe thinks the company will hit 5 million by year's end. The end goal is to provide "this whole night at the movies" experience.

Since then, MoviePass scaled back the location tracking features of its mobile app, and Lowe just walked back his remarks, saying he was wrong about the tracking. We don't know where they go afterwards, we don't record it.
