India's focus on curative, promotive and preventive ways of healthcare including Ayurveda and Yoga have been recognised around the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday and announced that the country would work towards ending Tuberculosis by 2025, five years ahead of the Sustainable Development Goals health targets.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate The Delhi End TB Summit at VigyanBhawan in the capital tomorrow.
He launched the TB-free India campaign to take the activities under the National Strategic Plan. This is not the first time that any government at Centre has initiated a campaign against tuberculosis, but in past, many governments had started campaigns like this against infectious disease, but due to improper management and implementation they were unsuccessful to show off their results.
Highlighting that most of TB's victims are poor, the PM said that the measures taken to eliminate TB will have a bearing on the lives of the poor.
"I am positive that "Delhi End TB Summit" will be hailed as a landmark event in the quest to eliminate TB from the world", the PM said. "We are starting new scheme for nutritional support, expanding public-private partnership and aligning our strategies to follow the similar success we got in HIV /AIDS", he said. The PM's announcement today makes the advanced target for TB elimination official.
Among those who present at the Summit were Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Union MoS Health Anupriya Patel, and WHO Director General TA Ghebreyesus.
He criticised the past TB eradication program while saying, "The pace of with which the program to eradicate TB in the nation was moving forward earlier, it would have taken us another 40 years to achieve it".
India has the highest burden of tuberculosis in the world-each year, 29 lakh new cases of TB are reported; 4.20 lakh people, mostly poor, are known to die of the disease.
Noting that TB is associated with social stigma and patients often hesitate to reveal their disease, Modi said that willpower is very critical to win over the disease.
As the main cause of death from antimicrobial resistance, TB also poses a threat to global health security. We must also seek new sources of financing; more efficient case finding, diagnosis and treatment; put people with TB at the center of the response; help countries move toward universal health systems; increase research for TB and ensure that human rights and equity are protected.
