Trump's Personal Assistant Fired Over Security Issue

Gary Cohn Trump's top economic adviser resigned from the White House last week after he voiced his fierce disagreement with the President's decision to levy steel and aluminum tariffs

President Donald Trump's longtime personal assistant, John McEntee, was sacked from his White House position while reportedly under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for financial crimes, CNN and the Wall Street Journal reported.

The charges are not related to the President, the source said.

Aide John McEntee, whose slight public profile belies his relatively long service with Trump going back to the early days of the original campaign, told colleagues that he had had trouble gaining necessary security clearances, according to the Wall Street Journal, which broke the news.

McEntee was escorted from the White House and was not allowed to collect his belongings. One official said he was dismissed due to an unspecified security issue.

"Mr. McEntee wasn't as well known as the others, but had been a constant presence at Mr. Trump's side for the past three years", the Journal reported.

After the eleciton, McEntee remained close to the president in the White House as his body man. McEntee was subsequently hired as a senior advisor on Trump's reelection campaign. The role meant McEntee was almost constantly at the President's side.

A source tells CNN's Kaitlan Collins that "McEntee was sacked because he is now under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for serious financial crimes", although the source also emphasizes that these potential crimes are "not Trump related".
