Alberta Premier Says Canada Needs Pipelines to Pay for Pharmacare

Sarah Hoffman

Former TransCanada executive Dennis McConaghy says it would be a "political disaster" for both Morneau and Notley if the pipeline in-service date is delayed beyond 2020 because both governments have staked their reputations on its completion.

Alberta sees the pipeline as key to moving bitumen from the province to the coast and from there to lucrative overseas markets.

"Premier Notley's only priority is working with the federal government and Kinder Morgan to secure the construction of the pipeline", Oates said in an email.

Kinder Morgan said Monday it has nothing to add to last week's statement from CEO Steve Kean in which he repeated the May 31 deadline and said that discussions are ongoing but "we are not yet in alignment".

Federal government representatives have not indicated whether they will support the bill in the House of Commons, Cousineau said.

"We feel we're doing what's responsible for B.C".

"On one hand, they don't want our oil, and on the other hand, they are suing us to give them our oil", she said. "That is what we're focused on".

Ancelotti has three-hour Napoli meeting
The 59-year-old is just one of several names in the frame to potentially replace Conte if his countryman leaves Chelsea though. Ancelotti had been out of work since being sacked by Bayern Munich during the 2017/18 campaign.

Notley said issues such as pharmacare are important and Alberta will be represented by deputy premier and Minister of Health Sarah Hoffman.

"The proposal to twin the pipeline is not to send more product to the Lower Mainland, but to export to other jurisdictions", Horgan told reporters after a meeting of western premiers wrapped up Wednesday in Yellowknife. "I believe the risk of a diluted bitumen spill to our environment, to our economy, is too great. I don't think there'll be any surprises next week".

The company, along with Alberta and Ottawa, blames the B.C. government for creating uncertainty for the project.

Enbridge Inc., North America's biggest crude pipelines operator, has denied it is negotiating to take over the Trans Mountain expansion project. But in the lawsuit filed on Tuesday, B.C. argues Alberta can not punish it for that stand by cutting off domestic fuel supplies.

"This project is essentially an expansion and a debottlenecking of an existing pipeline so it's very hard to build the project without selling the original Trans Mountain asset, which is of course a very complicated prospect".

The company behind the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project, Kinder Morgan, has stopped all non-essential spending on the expansion until it is assured the project can proceed without delay. "The other is gasoline or jet fuel to be used by citizens to move around freely", he said.

Attorney General David Eby has just announced BC's "next legal steps" after Alberta approved a new piece of legislation last week that would limit how much oil is shipped to B.C. Notley fired back, calling Singh "absolutely, fundamentally, incontrovertibly incorrect in every aspect of that tweet".
