Andres Iniesta to likely quit Spain after World Cup

Andres Iniesta to likely quit Spain after World Cup

Departing Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta says he will make a decision on the next step of his career "next week".

Iniesta is to leave the Catalan club after 16 seasons there, and while he's not retiring from football, he's ruled out a move to join up with his former manager Guardiola in the Premier League. Iniesta tells Onda Cero radio that if nothing odd happens then "this World Cup will be my last participation with the Spanish national team".

"There are some minor details to be sorted out, we're weighing everything up and will pick which one we decide is the best option".

The Spanish midfielder added: "Next week, when everything is over, we'll decide". I want this to happen before the World Cup'.

Iniesta hinted that he does have a preference between the two choices, although he didn't reveal which one.

But Iniesta confirmed on Monday he was close to making a decision, with one option "more advanced than another" and Australia seemingly no longer a possibility. His last match for Barcelona is on Sunday against Real Sociedad at Camp Nou.

Iniesta has made 43 appearances in all competitions this season, helping Barca win La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
