He also commended them for succeeding in reaching their demands, "You received a majority of your demands, making a significant impact on those who came after you".

Ending his speech, Boseman told the graduates not only to excel but also to strive to achieve their life's goal no matter what path they take.

The protests were sparked in part by an embezzlement scandal - which led to six employees being fired - involving the misuse of funds meant for low-income students. Students then protested and campaigned for affordable tuition and campus housing.

"You love the university enough to struggle with it", he said.

It's Wakanda Forever at Howard University!

"Many of you will leave Howard and enter systems and institutions that have a history of discrimination and marginalization", he said. "You can use your education to improve the world that you are entering".

Boseman described his earliest role as a young man who felt a pull toward gang violence with a heroin-addicted mother and a father who abandoned him when the character was young.

Girl, 11, dies after tree falls on vehicle in Newburgh
The Journal News says the National Weather Service will investigate potential tornado sites from Port Jervis, New York into CT . Police said the Newburgh Fire Department was called to 23 Robinson Ave. about 4:15 p.m. for a report of a tree on a vehicle.

"The role wasn't necessarily stereotypical", Boseman said.

Today, having stood against the stereotyping of black characters in film, Boseman has played Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get On Up, Thurgood Marshall in Marshall and T'Challa in Black Panther.

"What do you do when the principles and standards that were instilled in you here at Howard close the doors in front of you?" Boseman asked in his address Saturday. Sometimes you need to get knocked down before you can really figure out what your fight is and how you need to fight it.

"Purpose is the essential element of you", Boseman told the graduates.

"The struggles along the way are only meant to shape you for your objective", Boseman said, CNN reported. "Purpose crosses disciplines. It is the reason that you are on the planet at this particular time in history".

The Washington Post reports more than 2,000 students will receive degrees from Howard, referred to as "the Mecca" of black education in the US, in 2018. "Your very existence is wrapped up in the things you are here to fulfill".
