China Urges North Korea to Proceed with Trump Summit amid Threats

South Korea says military drills will go on

The White House today said it is proceeding with the preparations for a meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un notwithstanding Pyongyang's threat to cancel the historic summit on June 12, alleging that America was trying to push it "into a corner" on nuclear disarmament.

The US State Department said planning for the summit goes on.

Bolton is also not surprised at North Korea called him "awfully sinister" for saying Libya's decision to denuclearize during the George W. Bush administration is a model for US policy on North Korea.

"The president is ready if the meeting takes place". Trump should do the same, thinking strategically about the motivations of all the summit's key players: North Korea, China, South Korea, Japan, and Russian Federation.

"The United States will also have to undertake careful deliberations about the fate of the planned North Korea-U.S. summit", North Korea's official KCNA news agency said.

With that goal suddenly in jeopardy, White House officials responded to North Korea's statement on Wednesday by pretending they never actually expected the Kim-Trump summit to take place after all.

"All parties concerned, especially the DPRK and the United States, should move toward each other, release each other's goodwill and sincerity, create favorable conditions and (an) atmosphere for the leaders' meeting, and realize the denuclearization of the peninsula", Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said on Wednesday.

The call came as President Xi Jinping met with a delegation from North Korea's ruling Worker's Party, at which he expressed support for the North's avowed new emphasis on economic development, along with improving relations with South Korea.

Instagram officially launches re-sharing of posts to Stories
As Twitter users Jane Manchun Wong spotted , Instagram is also testing a floating Story Tray that will minimize when you scroll. When posted, the Story will display the original poster's username, which others can tap on to head back to the original post.

Bolton has pushed the idea of a deal with North Korea like that reached with Libya's Moamer Kadhafi, who agreed in 2003 to the elimination of his country's nuclear program and chemical weapons arsenal to gain sanctions relief.

Since the summit meeting was first announced, hopes have been high that North Korea would utterly capitulate.

The summit agreement, billed the Panmunjom Declaration, called for formally ending the 1950-53 Korean War within the year and pursuing "complete denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula.

April 18: Trump confirms that Mike Pompeo, then the Central Intelligence Agency chief, had met secretly with Kim in North Korea and said "a good relationship was formed" heading into the adversaries' anticipated summit.

The North has said it won't return to talks with Seoul due to the exercises.

"We will keep sharp eyes on the USA and the South Korean government's future attitude".

The exercises were "not provocative" and would continue, she added.
