Canadian police were looking for two suspects who walked into a crowded restaurant and detonated a bomb, injuring 15 people, and said on Friday the incident did not appear to be a hate crime or linked to worldwide terror.

"There were two individuals seen entering and detonating the device and two individuals that were seen fleeing the restaurant", Const. Iryna Yashnyk told reporters at the scene.

The regional police has released a photograph on Twitter showing two people in dark zip-up hoodies walking into the restaurant.

"Two parties fled the scene immediately after the incident".

Swarup said that Bhatia had visited the trauma centre where three Indian-Canadians who were wounded in the blast were admitted, and said they are in a stable condition.

Other victims were treated for minor injuries after the blast at the eatery in a strip mall that is surrounded by houses, grassy fields, and condo towers under construction.

Police are now conducting a manhunt for two suspects they believe were the ones who caused the explosion.

The three people who were most severely injured are a 62-year-old woman and a 48-year-old woman, both from Mississauga.

The first suspect is described as mid-20s with light skin, standing 5-foot-10 to 6-feet with a stocky build.

The second suspect is described as having fair skin, standing 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 with a thin build.

The bomb, which the police described as an improvised explosive device, was filled with "projectable objects", Sergeant Bertram said.

There were no indications of a "hate crime" in the attack.

The trio have since been upgraded to stable condition, said Evans.

The injuries were "consistent with those of an explosion", said Brian Gibson, deputy chief at Peel Regional Paramedic Services. "I'd like to advise the house that at this point there is no indication of a nexus to national security", he said. "Whoever has committed this heinous act needs to answer for their crimes and be brought to justice".

On its website, the restaurant posted a message that said: "It was an extremely horrific and sad incident".

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

Eyewitnesses to the aftermath of the blast said there was a lot of blood and broken glass on the floor of the restaurant.

By Friday afternoon, police had let the owners of vehicles parked in the plaza to return and remove their cars.

He said authorities could not say what the device was yet.
