Eagles invited to visit White House on June 5

Eagles strong safety Malcolm Jenkins during a press conference in advance of Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots at Mall of America

He did not visit President Donald Trump's White House past year, either, after he won Super Bowl LI with the New England Patriots.

Safety Malcolm Jenkins told CNN following the Super Bowl that he plans to skip the visit while defensive lineman Chris Long said on the "Pardon My Take" podcast, "No, I'm not going to the White House". The team released a statement at that time, stating that they were working through the logistics of the visit and viewed it "not only as an opportunity to be recognized for our on-field achievements, but also as an opportunity to engage in productive dialogue with the leaders of our country".

The topic of which members of the team would go to the White House started the second the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots. All three have been outspoken critics of Trump and his policies. The initial invitation was extended to the Eagles in late April.

Further details of the visit to the White House are still be worked out.

"I don't want to take away from anybody's experience or make it a big distraction", Jenkins said in February after the Super Bowl.

Trump Form Lists Payment To Cohen, Lawyer Who Paid Stormy Daniel

"I'm just not interested", Jenkins said about visiting the White House. "My son grows up, and I believe the legacy of our president is going to be what it is, I don't want him to say, 'Hey dad, why'd you go [to the White House] when you knew the right thing was to not go?'" "But this isn't one of those meetings, so I'll opt out of the photo opportunity".

The Patriots visited the White House after their win.

Trump's comments from October, where he called on all owners to "fire" any player who chose to kneel for the anthem, didn't sit well with a lot of the players in the Eagles locker room.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say: 'get that son of a (gun) off the field right now", Trump said in a speech last September.
