Japan reaffirms support for Iran nuclear deal

Macron talks to German Chancellor Angela Merkel after being awarded Charlemagne Prize in Aachen Germany

The White House on Friday released a statement accusing Iran of "exporting destabilizing influence throughout the Middle East, even as the Iranian people are victims of a struggling economy". "It is time for responsible nations to bring pressure on Iran to change this risky behavior", she added.

Shortly after President Trump announced that the US had left the nuclear deal, Israel launched air strikes a suspected Iranian military facility near Damascus.

There was no immediate comment Tuesday night from Iranian officials.

Israel and Iran engaged in an extensive military exchange on the heels of Trump's decision to leave the deal.

Protesters burned an American flag and railed against the United States and Israel after emerging from Friday prayers in Tehran.

Meanwhile, European diplomats in Tehran fumed that Trump's decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal could undermine years of patient work to restore commercial and diplomatic ties with the Islamic Republic.

Iran reiterated that no provisions or timeframes in the 2015 agreement "are negotiable in any manner".

Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the strikes, calling them a "blatant violation of the country's sovereignty".

The statement was sharply critical of President Donald Trump, calling his administration "extremist" and the USA withdrawal from the accord "unlawful".

"We are going to have a conversation about what we can do to help United Kingdom firms, European firms have some confidence that they can still do business", he said.

"We do not see ourselves as a mediator between Iran and the USA", he said.

Zarif arrived in Moscow following similar negotiations in China and will later head to Brussels for talks with the EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, and his counterparts from the three European parties. The grouping includes Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.

The nuclear deal was negotiated by then-president Barack Obama with Britain, China, France, Germany and Russian Federation to limit Iran's nuclear activities in return for relief from crippling global sanctions coordinated by the Obama administration.

Casey is the son of a former Pennsylvania governor and is among 10 Democratic senators seeking re-election in states won by Trump. Senate race this year could nonetheless play a key role in determining whether Republicans hang onto control of the chamber.

White House national security adviser John Bolton said USA sanctions on European companies that maintain business dealings with Iran were "possible", while Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he remained hopeful Washington and its allies could strike a new nuclear deal with Tehran. The deal allowed Iran to reconnect the machines and eventually build an industrial-scale enrichment program starting in 2025.

"Whoever hits us will get hit seven times over".

"This deal is not a bilateral treaty. It's a UN Security Council Resolution and it belongs to the entire world". Zarif is scheduled to meet the British, French and German foreign ministers on May 15 in Brussels. "Its ballistic missile program, which continued essentially unchecked, was proof that what they were seeking was delivery systems for the nuclear weapons", Bolton told CNN.

Britain has informed the United States that they remain firmly committed along with their European partners to maintain the Iran Nuclear Deal.

Merkel and Putin agreed that it's important to avoid further escalation.

"We're telling the Americans that it's their business what sanctions they impose, but we consider the extraterritoriality of these measures unacceptable", Le Drian said.

Ship insurance was a critical hurdle when sanctions were previously imposed on Iran because tanker operators couldn't obtain the level of cover that's considered standard across the oil industry.

In the wake of President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, European leaders on Tuesday began discussions about how they might sweeten the deal to keep Iran from restarting its nuclear program and stand up to coming US sanctions on companies that do business in Iran.

Trump pulled America out of the 2015 accord on Tuesday.

Khamenei said this week he is highly doubtful that Europe will provide the "real guarantees" needed for Iran to stay in the nuclear deal.

The statement said "the Iranian regime's reckless actions pose a severe threat to regional peace and security".

He added if the European powers were unable to make guarantees, "we must choose the path of self-sufficiency and nuclear industry with our own capabilities".

"As you know very well, we have many other disagreements", she said. The sanctions targeting Iran's central bank executives are some of the first actions by Trump's administration since pulling out of the deal to start ramping up that economic pressure.
