New YouTube section provides better credit to songwriters, labels and more

YouTube to launch music streaming service on 22 May

As of today, more than half a billion YouTube videos will contain new credits such as songwriter, label and publisher data. "So we're very excited that fans who discover music they love through UGC have an easier way to further engage with the artist and experience the official music video they've created for the music".

YouTube is continuing to ratchet up the site-wide services it provides for musicians - following last week's launch of four new charts that publicly display trending tracks, artists, and music videos.

YouTube is getting a new section that will provide extra information and credit for songs.

This information will appear on songs uploaded directly to an artist's channel as well as content featuring recorded music uploaded by fans.

YouTube's move to offer expanded credits is already attracting rave reviews across the industry, including from Sony/ATV Music chairman and CEO Martin Bandier and PRS CEO Robert Ashcroft, as well as artists like Elton John.

Why YouTube has waited so long to present this music discovery feature is anyone's guess (Shazam anyone), but here it is.

Goalkeeper Ederson commits future to champions Man City
City are due to celebrate their title success with an open-top bus parade through the streets of Manchester on Monday. City went two better with their 32 perfectly split between 16 home and away wins.

"YouTube is committed to providing recognition to all of the people who contribute to the creative process, and this is just the beginning". YouTube says it will be live for more than 500m videos on day one.

YouTube is, as previously reported, testing its long-awaited new music streaming platform, which is codenamed Remix and should have content in place from the three music majors, Universal Music, Sony Music and Warner Music, and various indies.

This data is being fed into YouTube's Content ID technology, which ultimately allows copyright owners to identify and manage their content.

"Songwriters are essential to the success of the music industry, but too often their critical role gets overlooked".

Labels, songwriters and producers will get their due on the platform. There's evidence that YouTube viewers are willing to investigate who makes the music featured in their favourite creators' videos though. "Music in this video" will be accessible by clicking "Show more" underneath a video.
