No US-European Compromise Seen On Iran As Khamenei Steps Up Demands

Iran deal

But Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei earlier in the day strongly rejected the USA demands and said the three European countries that signed the 2015 nuclear agreement should refuse to negotiate with Washington on a new deal.

The 2015 agreement between Iran and world powers lifted worldwide sanctions on Tehran.

Ayatollah Khamenei added Iran has the right to resume its restricted nuclear activities if the Europeans failed to meet the Islamic Republic's demands.

Iran continues to comply with the terms of its nuclear deal with world powers despite the USA withdrawal, but could be faster and more proactive in allowing snap inspections, the United Nations atomic watchdog policing the accord said on Thursday. Britain, France, Germany, China and Russian Federation reaffirmed their commitment to the deal, and the Iranian delegation emerged saying they were more confident than before, and made no mention of timelines.

Trump denounced the accord, completed under his predecessor Barack Obama, partly because it did not cover Iran's ballistic missile development programme, its role in Middle East conflicts or what happens after the deal begins to expire in 2025.

The ayatollah made five demands of the European countries. But that has proven hard, with European firms frightened away by US sanctions.

President Donald Trump's May 8 order to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, and reimpose USA sanctions has cast doubt over whether the deal can still work.

Players react to Trump's comments; linebacker Marshall calls them 'disgusting'
But I understand if they felt the need to protest". "As a veteran I was upset", said Rick Stevenson, quartermaster for Post 9899. Asked about what Trump said , Baldwin said at Seahawks' headquarters in Renton: "He's an idiot, plain and simple".

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif said he expected the other signatories to present "a new package" that would be within the boundaries of the agreement, but did not include "any other issues". "I'm sorry to say that we haven't (seen) the Plan B yet".

"Our position is very clear: Make the JCPOA (Iran deal) a successful story, then come to us and ask for dialogue or discussion or negotiation on other subjects", the Iranian official said. "Plan B has just started to be figured out".

Iran is looking for guarantees it can continue to sell its oil on world markets, have worldwide banking access and broad protection for ongoing trade, among other things.

"That is why we proposed to establish a comprehensive negotiating framework with Iran.

The moderates set the tone on the global stage through their shrewd diplomatic skills and softer tone, while the hard-liners take a tougher stance to help the moderates win more concessions", said Rafizadeh. Iran's senior nuclear negotiator, Abbas Araqchi, urged the European signatories to keep the deal beneficial for Iran.

The official noted that the International Atomic Energy Agency on Thursday reported Iran had complied with limits on the level to which it can enrich uranium, its stock of enriched uranium and other items. "We made the JCPOA in good faith and we remained committed to the JCPOA and they just pulled out.so name me a single reason why we should enter into a new negotiation with the USA or a new deal?" Some Western companies have already quit Iran or said they may have to leave because of the new USA sanctions.

Unusually for a meeting of the joint commission, the head of the UN's nuclear watchdog Yukiya Amano was invited to brief the participants on his organisation's work in Iran.
